The question is sometimes asked is
if it is legitimate to take an online guard card course. The
answer is yes, if it is a legitimate, BSIS- licensed curriculum
and provides the content as required by the California Bureau of
Security and Investigative Services, and that there are safeguards
in place to ensure the authenticity of the student test
taker. The content needs to be 100% similar to a live course
and 100% in compliance with BSIS. There are a few that fit
this requirement.
What Are the
Advantages of an Online Guard Card Course
The advantages of an online course
are as follows:
- Convenience to start,
stop and restart when you want. This benefits
someone whose time availability is sporadic.
- Accommodates someone
who cannot find a local school with days/time that fits
his schedule.
- Accommodates someone
who is ill. If you are sick but want to try to
do the guard card class now, this option makes
sense. It is not neighborly to subject other
students to sickness.
- Accommodates someone
out of state. If you are from out of state and
want to make progress on the guard card before moving to
California, this is a good option.

What an online course is not.
- It does not speed up
turnaround of the guard card. Doing
the course online doesn't allow you to get the guard
card faster. You can cover the material as quickly
if you take a live course today. That is, of
course, presuming that you can get a local course.
And you still have to do Livescan by finding a facility
locally.
- May not be for
everybody. Let's face it. Some people
just have a hard time with computers, never mind the
Internet. Most people nowadays are okay with the
technology, which really is very simple, but not
everybody is on board.

Because we get a lot of inquiries
about a legitimate online course, here's one below. We
enrolled, took the course and checked the entire content and
inspected the authenticity. It looks good. This is our
recommendation. If anyone finds anything to the contrary,
please let us know, as we don't want to steer anybody incorrectly.
